The Christian and Sex

Sexual addiction: the hardest to deal with of Satans deceptions.

Remember in Genesis, when the serpent lied to Eve? He seduced her into conversation by saying something like, "Did God really say you couldn't eat of the trees in the Garden?"

Well, Eve just had to set him straight by replying, "He said we could eat of every tree in the Garden but the one in the Center, the Tree of Life."

The seduction ensued with the implication that God was trying to withhold something good from his children, and Eve was hooked.

In like manner, Satan takes advantage of the ridiculous moral position of some religionists that sex is evil. God gave sex to this race because he loved his children and he wanted them to enjoy life.

Women were cursed with pain in childbirth, not pain in sex and not abstinence from sex. In fact, they would have "desire unto your husband", and this was a good thing. It was the pain in childbirth that was the curse. Women would still desire sex and they would even still desire children. Childbirth, however, would be a reminder of how much pain sin would bring to the entire human race.

Donw the line, however, those for whom sex wasn't fun--for whatever reason--started badmouthing it, and those whose spouses weren't remaining faithful started badmouthing it, and Satan jumped right in and stirred up the hearts of humans against such proclamations. Then he persuaded humans that if sex is good, then lots of sex is better. Then he persuaded humans that the reason some weren't having fun was because they had the wrong sex partner. Instead of fixing the sex within the marriage, he encouraged humans to find great sex and then get married . . . maybe.

Once he managed to confuse humanity about the relationship between love and sex, "the fix was in". Humans thinking sex is love have managed to hook themselves on all kinds of perversions that in no way resemble love. They simply satisfy the craving (or lust) for pleasure. Of course, there are those for which sex satisfies the lust for power, but that gives pleasure, so we're basically back to the same motive for sexual deviation.

Scripture, on the other hand, says that the extremes of any behavior are to be avoided. If we want to know what sexual standards should be upheld by Christians, believe me, the Bible is full of information for us.
