How Do Christians Survive in a World Trying to Crush Them?

Some might think the title of this article is a bit melodramatic, but if you're a Christian and you've been paying any attention at all to the media, you've got to know that there seems to be a war going on. On every front, Biblical Christianity is under attack:

Marriage

The Authenticity of the Bible

The Authority of God vs the Authority of Man

The Right to Say a Prayer in a Public Place

The Right to Display the Ten Commandments in a Public Place.

Now it's one thing to identify topics under attack.  It's another to identify the tools being used to attack them.  I intend to keep a list of all the things I find offensive to God's Biblical Truths.

Public School Prayer and Public Display of the Ten Commandments

At every opportunity for the past 50 years, people have used the First ammendment to ban prayer from public schools and the display of the Ten Commandments on public property.  This arises from a misunderstanding or misinterpretation of the First Ammendment.

Amendment I - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

Look at the first part of that.  It says our law makers may not make any laws forcing someone to abide by a specific religion.  It also specifically says that it may not prohibit the free exercise of any specific religion either . . .

Do you see anything in there that says you cannot pray in public or display the Ten Commandments in public or on public property?  It actually says the opposite, that the government cannot forbid you to practice your religion anywhere.  It cannot forbid public speech, public publications, or even public assembly as long as those things are not hateful or inflammatory (that is, as long as they are peacable and do not urge watchers/listeners to violence).

Public property is still public. A majority--not a minority--of the public should decide what may or may not be displayed on public property or in public schools.

If the majority of Americans claims to be Christian, why is there so much controversy surrounding prayer in public school or the display of the Ten Commandments anywhere?

Because the enemies of God don't want to be reminded that He is the author of the law under which most civilizations function.  Because Satan is more vocal about his rights than are the people who profess to be of God.

Our laws are designed to protect the public from being exposed to things that are demeaning, obscene, hateful, disruptive . . . There is nothing but love, peace, and joy in prayer, and the Ten Commandments display principles of order and harmony and peaceful brotherly love.

The only fault that can be found in them is that they acknowledge God as the founder of these principles, and the only ones who should be offended by that principle is Satan and his followers.  If one has no religion and encounters something Christian while walkng down the street or riding in one's vehicle, it should have no effect. There should be no feeling one way or the other. If one is offended, it is because of feelings of jealousy or fear. Either one thinks Christians have it too good and need to be taken down a peg or two, or one feels his or her own religion is so baseless that it cannot stand up to exposure to Christianity.

Christ told his followers that they receive not because they ask not.  Isn't it time Christians stand up and be counted?

It takes compassion, effort, and persistence to overcome sin in ourselves, let alone in the world. We should want the unsaved to be saved . . . not punished. We should be willing to make an effort to avoid doing what we know is wrong.  We should never tire in loving others and making some effort to see that their religious choices are educated instead of knee-jerk.

The bottom line is that even those who profess to be the children of God would rather give in to sin than overcome it.  We have been deceived into believing against all scriptural evidence that we can live in sin and cherish sin and still be saved.  Therefore we think we don't owe it to our families and friends to make sure they know who God is and why He created us and put us in this World of Woe. Everybody will be saved because Jesus paid the price for all. Unfortunately, that's not what scripture says.
