What's
All this "End Times" Talk
About ?
The Bible talks about a day of
judgment, when God will show to all the inhabitants of the world how
they have been judged and why, and then the judgments will be meted
out.
With so many theories about, I'd
like to see for myself what Scripture has to say about it.
How Will We Know if We're Living in "The End Times"?
The Bible tells us.
| "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal
the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and
knowledge shall increase." |
Are we running
to and
fro?
Has knowledge not
increased amazingly over just the last 60 years?
Are we not now living in
"The Age of Information"?
Do not many people now run their fingers to and fro in
the
scriptures, searching for and increasing their knowledge of the meaning
of prophecy?
Timelines
Can we know when the "times of the end" began?
Yes.
Can we know when and how it will all end?
No. We can only know when it is near and have a
clue as to how it will end.
Of course, once it's all over we'll be able to see the
outworking of prophecy
clearly in retrospect, just as we are able now to see how many of
scripture's prophecies have come to pass.
End time prophecies begin in the book of Daniel. King
Nebuchadnezzar had a dream and then couldn't remember what it was. He
only remembered that it had awed him and given him a sense that he
needed to understand it.
The dream, according to the interpretation given by God
to
Daniel, was of a statue that represented five major kingdoms of the
earth that God would use to deal with his chosen people, Israel. We
know that because China certainly was a huge kingdom, but it was not in
the vision. We must remember that the Bible is a history of Israel and
God's dealings with it.
The first kingdom or era of powers dealing with Israel
was
Babylon, represented by the head of gold. The second was Medo-Persia,
represented by the torso of silver. The third was Greece, represented
by the hips/thighs of bronze, and the fourth was Rome, represented by
the legs of Iron. The fifth was not actually a kingdom, but an era of
powers that would be divided and unable to form a single
kingdom.
Separate from the Statue itself was a sixth kingdom that
would
destroy the kingdoms of the last era, and it was described as a kingdom
that would have no end.
More to come.
